An Atlas Orthogonal doctor of Chiropractic uses special x-ray views to determine the extent and direction of spinal misalignment (subluxation). Information from the x-rays determines how the Doctor will adjust the spinal segment.

The actual adjustment is performed by an Atlas Orthogonal Percussion Adjusting Instrument. The instrument works by percussion - a sound wave - and the bone is gently restored to its normal position.

This can be illustrated by a game of pool (billiards). If you have two balls sitting side by side and a third ball strikes one of the two, the ball being struck remains while the ball not struck rolls away. This is percussion. The Atlas Orthogonal Percussion Adjusting Instrument works on this same principle.

WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

TRAUMA: Accidents, falls, head blows, heavy lifting, childbirth (mother & baby), athletic injuries, sudden unexpected movements.

TOXINS: Chronic poor diet, excessive alcohol use, low fiber diet, cigarette smoking, inhalation of strong fumes.

THOUGHTS: Chronic anxiety, nervous tension, post-traumatic stress syndrome, repressed memory of stressful events, suppressed hostility or anger, job stress, personal relationship stress, illness, death of a loved one, financial difficulties.

The painless, non-manipulative treatment for the purpose of correcting any misalignment in the spine (otherwise called a subluxation); specifically for the Atlas. The Atlas is the vertebra located at the base of the skull and at the top of the cervical spine encircling the brainstem. The brainstem is the gateway through which messages are sent from the brain to all of the body via nerve transmissions in the spinal cord and nerves. The brainstem also has direct control over the cardiovascular (heart and blood) supply, respiratory and digestive systems of the body along with monitoring all muscular tone in the body.

When the Atlas is displaced at the top of the cervical spine, the rest of the spine will also compensate because each of the bones sit on one another in a way that if one moves, they all have to move slightly. This can cause us to have a high or low shoulder, and/or a distorted low back leading to poor posture and interference to the nerves that get pinched due to the spinal distortion. This leads to pain and discomfort.

By bringing the Atlas back to level, the spinal distortion is eliminated, so the discomfort and pain can also be eliminated.

WHAT CAN CHIROPRACTIC HELP WITH?

WHAT IS ATLAS ORTHOGONAL?

  • Headaches & migraines
  • Neck & back pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Slipped disc
  • Sinusitis & allergies
  • Temporomandibular Disorder (TMJ)
  • Weakened immune system
  • Whiplash
  • Decreased neck movement
  • PMS
  • Attention Deficit Disorder
  • Seizures

Chiropractic is based on the fact that every tissue, organ, and cell of the body is supplied by the nervous system. If any one of the 24 movable spine bones are out of place, it can put pressure on a nerve and decrease the nerve supply to an organ, tissue, or cell. A chiropractic adjustment takes the pressure off the nerves so that the tissues, organs, and cells can function 100%.

ABOUT ATLAS ORTHOGONAL TECHNIQUE

Dr. Sellers is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree as well as earning honors as a Presidential Scholar. Dr. Sellers graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

While at Palmer College, Dr. Sellers performed an externship with highly recognized Dr. Troy Hagen, Board Certified Atlas Orthogonist, and has worked with her mentor Dr. Amy Osenbaugh, also Board Certified in Atlas Orthogonal.

Dr. Sellers also took part in extra studies with the developer of the Atlas Orthogonal technique,  Dr. Roy Sweat, and his son, Dr. Matthew Sweat, in Atlanta, Georgia.

All of these problems are due to a decrease in nerve supply to an area of the body. By removing the interference to the nervous system, the body can heal and the symptoms will be reduced.
